Defending Jacob on Apple TV+

Defending Jacob is a series produced by Apple TV+, based on the book by William Landay with the same name. The series stars Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery, and Jaeden Martell. It premiered on April 24th, 2020, and its final episode of the first season was today, May 29th. I had the distinguished honor of being on set when some of these scenes were being filmed, but I will try not to spoil anything, in case you want to watch it...(which I highly recommend that you do!). The story follows the Barber family from Massachusetts as they deal with the possible accusation that their 14-year-old son may have murdered his fellow classmate. Every week following the initial release of the first 3 episodes in the series, more information regarding the murder of Ben Rifkin are unveiled. But just when it seems like all ends are tied together, they hit you with another twist, making you question every action taken by each character. They all seem to know something regarding the case, but all fing...

Breakwater - Stonington, CT

Not far from the RI State Line, Breakwater (Stonington Harbor) was busy serving customers under the sun. The environment was quite relaxing and the atmosphere was very welcoming, with family and friends coming through to take their boats out on the water or dock them to stop and enjoy a nice lunch. It was great to see waitresses back to work and even better to see restaurants like these back in business for the season! I've been to this place a few times, so I ordered some of the same items off the menu, but tried some new ones today. Here's what I recommend: 1.) In the top left corner, the  Grilled Seafood Medley , had scallops, shrimp, calamari, and salmon, served with coconut-scallion rice. DELICIOUS! 2.) In the top right corner, the Margherita Flatbread (just a regular flatbread with tomato, mozzarella, and basil, with a drizzle of balsamic on top). The dough was fluffy, and crispy around the edges, cooked to perfection! 3.) At the bottom,  Bru...

CT History Day Participant to Judge

From 2014-2017, I was a participant of the Connecticut History Day contest in the individual performance category. The first time I was told about History Day, I was driven by the long term research and composition of the projects. I knew that I was ready to take on a new challenge. The best part of History Day was always choosing a topic. In school, we only ever learned a portion of history from different time periods: we get a basic understanding of important historical figures and how they create a lasting impact. I enjoyed exploring a wide variety of topics within a centralized theme and focusing on aspects of history beyond the ones in our textbooks.  Another great aspect of History Day was creating your project's thesis. My project: "Exploring the Power of Dance: Martha Graham" for the 2016 theme of  Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange  was built off of a thesis focusing on Martha Graham's ability to revolutionize dance through the expansion of boundar...

Costello’s Clam Shack - Noank, CT

One of my favorite things about living in New England during the summer is being able to eat fresh seafood by the water.  Since CT is in the process of their Phase 1 reopening, many restaurants have welcomed customers back with outdoor seating, just in time for the warm weather. Temperatures reached into the upper 70s and low 80s today and boats were docked at the shipyard once again.  Not only is it the first time I have sat down to eat at a restaurant since the shutdown, but I also had my first lobster roll of the year--before the first day of summer!! For you seafood lovers who aren’t big fans of the large crustacean, Costello’s also has a wide variety of fried seafood (like the fried whole belly clam roll shown in the picture, served with fries on the side--I substituted one of the orders for sweet potato fries instead of regular ones, for something a little bit different). They also have stuffed clams, and the classic New England clam chowder. The cla...
