This restaurant in the heart of Mystic is just down the road from the Mystic Drawbridge and is right on the water, overlooking all the boats docked for the season. The atmosphere is welcoming, as you see families and friends sitting out on their boats, eating and napping under the hot sun.
The temperature gets a little colder for outdoor seating here, but if you grab a light jacket and some Sperry Top-Siders, you'll fit in quite nicely. Most of their dining is already outside, but they added some patio seating in areas of the parking lot, and some Adirondack chairs for lounging in front of the pier. The bar is not open yet, in accordance with the policies of the state of CT, so they are continuing to offer their Happy Hour menu, anywhere in the restaurant from 4-6, Monday through Friday.
They are not yet taking reservations to dine-out, but even with the number of people on the waitlist when I arrived, what they said would be a 40 minute wait, ended up being only 15-20 minutes.
I took a break form watching NASA's live stream of the Dragon's arrival at the International Space Station for some of my favorite foods at Red 36.
The first image shows the Clam & Bacon Flatbread. Aside from the combination of clams and bacon, it is also cooked with roasted garlic, oregano, parmesan cheese, and olive oil. Again, this was made to perfection: the bacon was crispy, the edges of the flatbread were not burnt, and the middle was chewy and tasty!
The second image displays the Thai Peanut Calamari, fried with calamari rings, instead of the tentacles, it is cooked with a sweet chili sauce and wasabi aioli.
The third image is a combination of the Pulled Pork Sliders and Pulled Pork Quesadillas. The sliders, which come 3 to an order, are served with coleslaw and sandwiched between house-made rolls. The quesadillas are topped with a black salsa and sour cream. It was delicious and I would definitely order it again!
And finally, I ordered the Fried Brussels Sprouts, which were cooked with bacon and served with a chili garlic aioli sauce and lime.
They also have a raw bar, with very large oysters on the half shell. The current price for those were $2.75 each.

If you ever find yourself visiting the Seaport, the Aquarium, Historic Downtown Mystic, or maybe you're just looking for some place to have lunch, remember that Red 36 is open for business again and the waitresses are excited. Also, don't forget that Mystic Drawbridge ice cream is right down the road too!
