S & P Oyster - Mystic, CT

I have visited Mystic quite a few times, but it was my first time eating at S & P Oyster. I heard many great things about the restaurant, so I finally decided to try it out.

Their dining room is open again. with effective social distancing and health practices being implemented, but they also have outdoor seating in a portion of their parking lot, as well as surrounded by tons of beautiful plants, the iconic drawbridge, and the view of the water.

I ordered the S & P Seafood Pasta, with shrimp, sea scallops, calamari, mussels, fettuccine, white wine garlic sauce, and freshly chopped herbs. which was the ideal size for dinner. I ended up taking the rest home for lunch the next day.

For appetizers, I had Prosciutto Wrapped Sea Scallops. It was wood grilled and served with cilantro sauce, piquillo pepper & jicama salsa, and charred corn, kind of like a corn salsa. I also had Spinach & Artichoke Dip, and it was the best I've had in awhile! It was topped with freshly shaved parmesan, and served with some very fluffy style chip to dip into it. I also tried the Oysters Rockefeller, which were topped with spinach and cheese and baked...YUM!

The Warm Focaccia was drizzled with rosemary, and garlic balsamic infused olive oil. It was the perfect start to the meal.

And of course, a side order of spinach because what good is dinner without vegetables!

Towards the end of the night, the Mystic Drawbridge went up and I was able to watch it from my table. Overall, it was quite a cool experience!

I definitely plan on coming back here again and try out some of their other menu items...if only I get a day off from work soon!

Grant's Berry Patch - Jewett City, CT

Strawberries are finally in season, and the weather was perfect for "Pick Your Own" at Grant's Berry Patch and Farm yesterday.  Multiple rows of the seasonal red fruit were growing close to the ground and some leaves even sprouted berries of all different sizes.  Priced at $3.95/lb, I left there with almost 20 lbs. of strawberries for myself, family and friends. Once they were properly washed and cooled for a little while, I really liked the smaller strawberries the best, but all of them were fresh, sweet, and juicy.  Some people will use the berries to make jam, jelly, mix them with cream, dip them in chocolate, make them into a smoothie, or just eat them the way they are! However you eat your strawberries, I recommend picking them fresh from your local farm. The experience is tons of fun for families of all ages, and they taste way better than the ones you buy at the grocery store. Besides, strawberries have tons of nutritional benefits: experts say that they are an exc...

CT History Day Participant to Judge

From 2014-2017, I was a participant of the Connecticut History Day contest in the individual performance category. The first time I was told about History Day, I was driven by the long term research and composition of the projects. I knew that I was ready to take on a new challenge. The best part of History Day was always choosing a topic. In school, we only ever learned a portion of history from different time periods: we get a basic understanding of important historical figures and how they create a lasting impact. I enjoyed exploring a wide variety of topics within a centralized theme and focusing on aspects of history beyond the ones in our textbooks.  Another great aspect of History Day was creating your project's thesis. My project: "Exploring the Power of Dance: Martha Graham" for the 2016 theme of  Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange  was built off of a thesis focusing on Martha Graham's ability to revolutionize dance through the expansion of boundar...
