Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough - Noank, CT

Definitely the BEST lobster roll I’ve had all season so far! And just look at the size of those oysters! Right next to Costello’s Clam Shack, Abbott’s has more steamed seafood, so if you’re looking for some fried clams, you won’t find them here, you’d have to drive over to the shipyard next door, and get them there. Abbott’s is a great place to be on a hot summer day, with outdoor seating along the water; watch the ships sail by and dig into a nice big lunch!

S & P Oyster - Mystic, CT

I have visited Mystic quite a few times, but it was my first time eating at S & P Oyster. I heard many great things about the restaurant, so I finally decided to try it out.  Their dining room is open again. with effective social distancing and health practices being implemented, but they also have outdoor seating in a portion of their parking lot, as well as surrounded by tons of beautiful plants, the iconic drawbridge, and the view of the water.  I ordered the S & P Seafood Pasta , with shrimp, sea scallops, calamari, mussels, fettuccine, white wine garlic sauce, and freshly chopped herbs. which was the ideal size for dinner. I ended up taking the rest home for lunch the next day. For appetizers, I had Prosciutto Wrapped Sea Scallops . It was wood grilled and served with cilantro sauce, piquillo pepper & jicama salsa, and charred corn, kind of like a corn salsa. I also had Spinach & Artichoke Dip , and it was the best I've had in awhile! It was topped with fr...

David Burke Prime Steakhouse (Foxwoods Resort Casino)

David Burke Prime Steakhouse at Foxwoods opened back up for dining in the restaurant 2 days before the official Phase 2 Reopening in CT.  Although the menu is limited, they do not fail to still deliver their premium steaks, and favorite entrees.  Every time I go to David Burke's, I ALWAYS...and I mean ALWAYS (no matter what) order a side of Garlicky Baby Spinach (seen in the first image) and their Double Cut Maple Bacon , which is served as three slices of extra thick-cut candied bacon with a black pepper maple glaze. I promise it is DELICIOUS! I also ordered their 3 course Prime Time Dinner , which allows you to choose from 1 of 5 entrees: Herb-Roasted Chicken, Faroe Island Salmon, Seared Stonington Scallops, a classic cut Prime Rib (12 oz.), or a Petite Filet Mignon (6 oz.). Here, I got a classic cut Prime Rib cooked until it was pink or "medium." I normally eat my steak cooked "well done," but a steak like this tastes better when it's not shriveled up a...

Grant's Berry Patch - Jewett City, CT

Strawberries are finally in season, and the weather was perfect for "Pick Your Own" at Grant's Berry Patch and Farm yesterday.  Multiple rows of the seasonal red fruit were growing close to the ground and some leaves even sprouted berries of all different sizes.  Priced at $3.95/lb, I left there with almost 20 lbs. of strawberries for myself, family and friends. Once they were properly washed and cooled for a little while, I really liked the smaller strawberries the best, but all of them were fresh, sweet, and juicy.  Some people will use the berries to make jam, jelly, mix them with cream, dip them in chocolate, make them into a smoothie, or just eat them the way they are! However you eat your strawberries, I recommend picking them fresh from your local farm. The experience is tons of fun for families of all ages, and they taste way better than the ones you buy at the grocery store. Besides, strawberries have tons of nutritional benefits: experts say that they are an exc...

Red 36 - Mystic, CT

This restaurant in the heart of Mystic is just down the road from the Mystic Drawbridge and is right on the water, overlooking all the boats docked for the season. The atmosphere is welcoming, as you see families and friends sitting out on their boats, eating and napping under the hot sun. The temperature gets a little colder for outdoor seating here, but if you grab a light jacket and some Sperry Top-Siders, you'll fit in quite nicely. Most of their dining is already outside, but they added some patio seating in areas of the parking lot, and some Adirondack chairs for lounging in front of the pier. The bar is not open yet, in accordance with the policies of the state of CT, so they are continuing to offer their Happy Hour menu, anywhere in the restaurant from 4-6, Monday through Friday. They are not yet taking reservations to dine-out, but even with the number of people on the waitlist when I arrived, what they said would be a 40 minute wait, ended up being only 15-20 minutes....

Flanders Fish Market & Restaurant - East Lyme, CT

Open again for the season, Flanders Fish Market & Restaurant served up their signature specials and some new menu items. The restaurant opened up their patio with outdoor picnic tables that are available on a first come, first serve basis. I was looking forward to my favorite appetizer: Cappy's Shrimp , seasoned with Old Bay and cooked with tomatoes, scallions, and served with tortilla chips on the side. This dish never disappoints! The large order of chicken wings were seasoned with lots of the famous Old Bay spices, and cooked to perfection: nice and crispy...just the way I like it! In the bottom right corner is the Stuffed Portabella . I am not much of a mushroom fan myself, but the stuffing, consisting of crab meat, vegetables, and mozzarella cheese makes it worth a try. Above that is something I heard a lot of people praising-- Baked Avocado . I really like avocado, so this was an appetizer I was already interested in trying before I even saw what was in it. This...

Defending Jacob on Apple TV+

Defending Jacob is a series produced by Apple TV+, based on the book by William Landay with the same name. The series stars Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery, and Jaeden Martell. It premiered on April 24th, 2020, and its final episode of the first season was today, May 29th. I had the distinguished honor of being on set when some of these scenes were being filmed, but I will try not to spoil anything, in case you want to watch it...(which I highly recommend that you do!). The story follows the Barber family from Massachusetts as they deal with the possible accusation that their 14-year-old son may have murdered his fellow classmate. Every week following the initial release of the first 3 episodes in the series, more information regarding the murder of Ben Rifkin are unveiled. But just when it seems like all ends are tied together, they hit you with another twist, making you question every action taken by each character. They all seem to know something regarding the case, but all fing...
